Island Warfare

Will the AI use boats to get from one island to another if there is no way of getting to it by land?

If the answer to that is no, will they at least know how to use a heli to get to the other island?

  2. Not right now unfortunately. A dev responded awhile back that having them use a boat in order to traverse water would be too taxing on the performance. (find boat, calculate path, find landing spot).

  3. hmm... would they use helis though?

No, with the Virtual profile system that is in place it would be pretty complicated to have AI move like that, as of now they simply move over the water and then spawn in once they get to spawn range. Better path-finding to have them avoid water and terrain has been discussed but we'll have to wait and see. With the Military Logistics module, if they capture an insertion point on one island they may use helicopters to reinforce groups near that objective.

AI are really not very I, sadly. Fixing AI behaviour is not in the scope of ALiVE really, but we do want to figure out a better way to handle water in due course.

  6. so a map like N'Ziwasogo wouldnt work that well :(, thats a bummer

I worked around it by making small unconnected TAORs on each island and manually placing boat patrols and heli patrols to give the impression of a joined up force.
