Looks like that just spawns infantry only.

That's because that faction only has infantry groups defined.

Ouch, can I still drop them on the map and have Virt AI System control them? It's prob cause he added armor later on. I really wanna get a snow mission done, not many options for units.

You can place units and sync them to the virtual AI yes.
He would need to create motorized, mechanized and armor groups for ALiVE to spawn them.

Next release ALiVE will include an ORBAT tool so you can create your own groups that are ALiVE-compatible. See here for more info:
