ALiVE Singleplayer

  1. 7 years ago

Ok, so as a dad to a 9 month old my ability to go for deep long multiplayer sessions is just straight up none. I do however get play time, as I live in Socialist Sweden and I'm at home with my little girl for the next ten months.

I have a pretty nice mission going that I've been more or less playing since Alive was released (entire Altis type deal, random starting position and auto-generated tasks). Thing is, every session is a start from the beginning and every once in a while I look at how ALiVE is supposed to be played, and I think it's not for me, since I only play with I mean by myself, and not on a server.

But is that the best I can do?

Don't get me wrong, it's been what... Years now, and it hassent gotten me bored yet. But blowing up insurgent training facilities, and clearing IEDs only to have it all reset the next restart is making me feel like it's all for... well, i won't say nothing. But you know...

Anyway, what I want to know is if this is the best way to go about it, or have I just not looked at every option?

    Cheers!

I primarily play alone too. You can host a local dedicated server on your own PC. That's what I do. Above is the link to the tool and how to set it up. Assuming you have Internet this will be perfect for you.

TADST plus Spyder Addons for AI recruitment and loadouts make ALiVE the best SP experience around IMO.

  3. Oh, really?

This looks cool and intimidating. If I were to try this and fail, would you take me under your wing and guide me to glory?

  4. Edited 7 years ago by HeroesandvillainsOS

Yes of course. Lol. I can help you.

It's been awhile since I initially set it up (way over a year now) but that guide was what I used. Along with the accompanying YouTube videos for the port stuff (etc) so take it one step at a time and you'll get it.

I say, go ahead and get started and then bump this thread back if you get hung up and we'll figure it out. :)

  5. You could also try the solution S.Crowe cooked up. Found here -> . It should work well for SP games.
NOTE: Untested by me, I let him handle that during our games.

So, I got to where I found the server in the list and can try to join it, there's no info about the server, and on the server window it keeps spamming "22:30:33 Mission Operation Landlord | ALiVE read from bank."

Edit: Solved it! I hadn't enabled addons.

  7. So, now I'm stuck on trying to save to see if the whole War Room thing works. In the wiki it says "open chat and type login yourpassword defined in TADST", but I don't understand where that is defined.

  8. Edited 7 years ago by HeroesandvillainsOS

In TADST, on the first screen, you need to set a password under (I think) admin password (not sure on the exact name. Not at home. You'll see it).

Then, in the lobby screen where you select your playable slot, open up the console with the / button

Then type #login yourpassword and click enter (yourpassword being the password you set in TADST).

When you save, press esc and click the server save and exit option.

There are some other things you'll need to have setup though to get this to work. @aliveserver needs to be in your mods line in TADST. Also, in every module that has a "save" option or persistent setting, such as Virtual AL, military AI commander, Data and Player Data modules and a few others, you need to set the options to save (or persistence "yes") as well.

The best way to see if it works is to set "save mission time" to yes, and look at the in-game clock when you save. That way when you load, you'll know right away if it worked because the in-game time will be what you saved the mission at.

Thanks! Now I've logged in and server save and exit looks like it's saving and exiting, and it says data saved, but nothing shows up in the war room. How does my local stuff know what to communicate to ALiVE?

I feel like I've missed something.

Also, in my profile it says "You're profile is not linked to your Game Data", does that have anything to do with it? When I click connect, the site says "Sorry."

Edit: I hadn't downloaded the alive.cfg. Trying that now!

Edit2: I feel like I get stuck on every step. Sorry for taking your time.

  10. No problem man! Sounds like with alive.cfg you should be all set! Have fun and don't hesitate if you have any other questions.

  11. Hi @Easy, have you got it working alright now?

  12. I just tried saving again, and it did look a little different with all the data flashing by, and it shows the mission name in most recent operations, so I guess it works?! :D

It still says NaN hours played, but I was only in game for a couple of minutes, so maybe I have to be in it for longer and actually do something other than fire one shot and get in a helicopter?

Also, this was on Op Landlord, the demo mission. Just to check communication. When I run my own mission and want to go back and continue the fight, how do I load the stuff up again?

  13. Persistent saves are related to the mission name. So for example, if you save my_mission.altis.PBO and then go to play the game again after a server save and exit, as long as the mission name hasn't changed it will load automatically.

To restart the mission, change the name. Something like my_mission1.altis.pbo would work for that.

  14. Also be aware that stats and shots fired, etc can take a bit of time to update on the WR. I think Tupolov mentioned on Slack today that there is an issue ATM with War Room capturing data... so don't go too crazy on troubleshooting it might be a server-side problem. Sounds like you have it setup properly @Easy

  15. Roger, thanks.

I think I have at least some parts set up correctly, becaus I can get into and play the mission fine.

I think I effed something up with persistance though, because it saves mission time, but player location (and T.R.A.C.E colors) seem to reset every start.

I placed the Player Data module and made sure everything is on "yes". Is there something obvious I've missed again?

  16. Edited 7 years ago by HeroesandvillainsOS

TRACE doesn't persist unfortunately. I'll add a feature request because I really would love that.

Your player position should save though. I think you need to have respawnOnStart = -1 in your description.ext for it to work. Pretty sure that's right.

  17. That gave me an error message.

  18. Edited 7 years ago by HeroesandvillainsOS

Oops. Sorry. I thought that was right but I'm not near my PC. Can you download one of my missions and just grab my description.ext? Should prove a decent base for you to tinker with (I just linked some in the missions thread sticky).

Use this tool to extract the PBO:

    http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=16369

  19. Or actually, Maquez linked a template here:

    https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/195514-bis-respawn-bug/

And here is the Arma wiki for description.ext so you know what the various options are for each parameter:

    https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Description.ext

  20. Should player persistance (position) work on Spyders Insurgency (Altis) mission? Because I can't get it to fly, so I'm starting to think I'm doing something wrong on some other end.
